The Boat Parade Now Starts at Sparkman Wharf. Downtown's Holiday Season Runs Along the River.

November 5, 2026

Last December, Tampa's Holiday Lighted Boat Parade left from the lighthouse off Davis Islands. Large boats ended at the Convention Center, and only vessels under 12 feet of air draft kept going upriver toward Armature Works, according to the Tampa Downtown Partnership's 2025 event page.

The 2026 parade starts at the downtown waterfront instead. Friends of the Riverwalk has it on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 6:15 p.m. It starts near Sparkman Wharf, goes through the Convention Center Basin and finishes at Armature Works. The whole route now sits on the same stretch of river that holds Water Street, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and the Riverwalk. Every other holiday event downtown is on that stretch too. If you live in the Channel District, on Water Street or near the Riverwalk, you can walk the whole season.

The Route, Start to Finish

The official route is short enough to list:

  1. Start near Sparkman Wharf at 6:15 p.m.
  2. Through the Convention Center Basin
  3. Finish at Armature Works

Last year, Sparkman Wharf was already where the judging and the VIP viewing area were, and the Partnership said viewing along the Riverwalk was free at several spots. Now the parade starts at that judging spot and ends on the Heights side of the river, so most of what's left of the route passes along the Riverwalk.

Charley Belcher is this year's grand marshal. The parade is also up for Best Holiday Parade in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, and you can vote once a day through Nov. 30.

Six Weeks, One Waterfront

Line up the season by place and the river ties it together. Water Street lights up first, then Curtis Hixon opens for six weeks, and the boat parade brings the season onto the water two weeks before Winter Village closes.

Water Street Goes First

Water Street's Season Spectacular is set for Thursday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. It's free and centered on 971 Water St. The night marks the official lighting of the neighborhood, and part of the bar sales goes to the Children's Dream Fund, a Tampa Bay nonprofit for children with life-threatening illnesses.

There are more places to stop along these blocks than last year. Pura Vida Miami opened its first Tampa café on Sept. 10 at 1038 Water St. It has 3,400 square feet indoors and out, plus all-day breakfast, bowls, smoothies and coffee, according to the Business Observer. In October, the Business Observer reported that Ayu Bottega, a clean beauty and wellness shop with facial treatments, was slated for November next door to Pura Vida. The same report said Sirena City Haus Boutique was aiming for late December or early January nearby. Sirena will carry women's clothing, denim and swimwear, mostly priced $100 to $400, and its original shop on Cypress Street is staying open.

Curtis Hixon Holds the Middle

Winter Village runs at Curtis Hixon from Nov. 20 through Jan. 3, with the Tampa Bay Lightning as presenting sponsor. Last season ran Nov. 21 through Jan. 4, and a 75-minute skating session cost $17 with rental, WFLA reported. This year the dates and the price are about the same. Skating is still $17 for 75 minutes with rental, and $15 for skaters under 12. Reservations are online or by on-site QR code, and tickets go live Nov. 6.

On opening night the rink and shops run 5 to 9 p.m., and on most days after that the rink is open noon to 9 p.m. Winter Village is closed on Thanksgiving, and the café and shops keep their own schedule. Each night of the week has its own draw:

  • Thursdays: College Night, with $2 off skating from 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Saturdays: Festive Saturdays, with live performances from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Select Sundays: Character visits from 1 to 4 p.m., including Frosty, Elsa, Olaf, the Grinch and the Gingerbread Man.
  • Every operating day: Silent disco, with headphones loaned at the information kiosk if you show a valid ID.

The Shops of Winter Village sell gifts and handmade goods from local small businesses. On Nov. 28 and 29, from 1 to 4 p.m., Shop Small Weekend gives the space to young entrepreneurs.

Dec. 5 Fills the Day

Santa Fest takes over the park on Saturday, Dec. 5, and spills into the streets around it:

  • 1 p.m. parade: Starts at Morgan and Madison streets, goes west on Madison, turns north on Ashley Drive and ends at Ashley and Cass Street. Organizers name Madison Street as a prime viewing spot.
  • 1–5 p.m.: Crafts, games and free photos with Santa at Curtis Hixon.
  • 6 p.m.: Seven Christmas trees are lit around the park.
  • After dark: A free holiday movie on the lawn.

The River and the Rails Connect It

A few extras use the downtown transit lines. The Winter Village Express is a 50-minute round trip on the TECO Line Streetcar from Whiting Station to Ybor and back, with a holiday sing-along and trivia on board. Tickets go live Nov. 6. In 2025 it ran from late November until just before Christmas, and a $10 ticket covered the ride, a drink and a cookie.

The River of Lights cruise is back this year. It boards the Pirate Water Taxi at Winter Village, stop #12, and goes down the Hillsborough River past the holiday lights and waterfront decorations. A Riverwalk resident can spend an evening on skates, on rails and on the water without ever getting in a car.

Dec. 19 Is the Busiest Night

The boat parade isn't the only thing happening on Saturday, Dec. 19. The same day, onbikes holds its 15th annual Winter Wonder Ride. It starts at a holiday village at Thunder Alley with a DJ, Lightning concessions, photos with Santa and a Kid Zone, then heads out along Bayshore Boulevard. Ticket sales help onbikes buy new bicycles for local children. Details are on the Winter Wonder Ride event page.

[solidcore] also has its grand opening on Dec. 19 at 912 E. Cumberland Ave. It's the brand's second Tampa-area studio, and its soft opening was scheduled for Nov. 12, the night of Season Spectacular.

If you're driving in from South Tampa that night, roadwork may affect one approach. The Tampa Downtown Partnership said the South Tampa Street S-curve under the Selmon Expressway, which connects to South Franklin Street, was scheduled to close starting Oct. 20 for about two years during the South Selmon Capacity Project. Under that plan, drivers headed from South Tampa Street to South Franklin would use the leftmost lane of East Brorein Street, and that street's leftmost lane between South Morgan Street and South Florida Avenue would close for the length of the work. On a night when the parade, the ride and Winter Village all draw crowds, the Riverwalk and the streetcar avoid that detour entirely.
